LA is one of my favorite cities (heading down this week), so I am an avid LA times reader. Last week, I did a major double take when I noticed they recommended Ottawa as a cool city to visit. They also name dropped the Andaz Hotel, and guess what? I just got to celebrate my birthday with an Andaz staycation!

The Andaz hotel is something else. As we first walked in, I was greeted with a glass of wine and knew it would be a fabulous weekend. The hotel is both minimal and extravagant, but in all the right ways. The details they chose to focus on make the big difference: cooper box for your k-cups, intimate check-in space, marble walls, coffee shop that turns into a bar in the evening, I could go on and on and on.

We were in a spacious corner room with a larger-than normal king bed surrounded by copper hanging lights and all the bright windows a selfie could dream of. (The surrounding floor to ceiling windows overlook downtown Ottawa and everything it has to offer.) Don’t get me started on the bathroom and the spacious rain-fall shower and gold faucets and….

It’s hard to choose what stood out the most, but the main selling points are: location (ByWard market surrounded by Ottawa’s day and nightlife), Feast and Revel‘s menu (also recommended by the LA times), and the stunning rooftop patio overlooking our beautiful city. Once you lay your eyes on those sunsets, you will never want to leave.

Everyone you come across in the Andaz are happy and courteous, without being overbearing. I could write a thesis on this hotel, but I will keep it short and sweet, and encourage you to enjoy your own staycation. Or, if you’re visiting Ottawa after reading that LA times article, book your stay at Andaz—you’ll thank me later. I’m definitely going back soon!

FTC: Andaz graciously hosted me for a birthday staycation; all opinions are my own!
