All about tech-neck and how to avoid it

I hope you’re not looking down at this right now.

You might remember I spent an afternoon with No7 and scientific skincare adviser, Dr. Mike Bell, learning about their newest launches in Canada. (All exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart, by the way.) It’s where I came across the term ‘tech-neck’ and now I can’t get it out of my head. We are all staring down at our screens 24/7, and that creates what No7 calls ‘tech-neck’—skin that has experienced far too many screens in its lifetime and now presents tell-tale wrinkles. Or, as Dr. Bell likes to call it, ‘crepiness’. Who can deny that neck firmness and texture can cause insecurities? But, someone (i.e. No7) is out there doing blind studies and accumulating data on the best way to take care of your skin (including your tech-neck and ‘crepiness’) and mixing the right ingredients.

No7 Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi-Action Serum

Riding off the success of its predecessors–the Protect & Perfect Intense Advanced Serum ($31) and the Lift & Luminate Triple Action Serum ($36)—the Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi-Action Serum¬†($36) is No7‘s first product to deliver clinically-proven and age-defying results for both neck and face. Among all the data presented to us, it appears that saggy and textured skin around the neck is a major concern for women. And, tech-neck only amplifies and speeds up the appearance of ‘crepiness’. (Wait, don’t throw your phone out the window!)

If you don’t plan on slowing down your Instagram browsing, the Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi-Action Serum is your best bet in slowing down (and reversing, according to their amazing data) micro-texture and loss of structure! The Multi-Action Serum is infused with familiar ingredients (protein-strengthening Matrixyl 3000 Plus Complex), but it also boosts other interesting compounds—Calcium Amino Acids and Ceramides. In combination, these two support the strength of your epidermis (top layer of your skin). As we all age, calcium becomes depleted in our tissues and this affects how our cells work and produce things like ceramides, which results in weaker and thinner skin (‘crepiness’, if you prefer). The formula also boosts fantastic ingredients like hyaluronic acid to retain moisture, hibiscus to support collagen, and vitamin C to brighten. A perfectly well-rounded serum to target a multitude of aging issues!

No7 faves on our beauty counter

Besides the newly launched Restore & Renew Face & Neck Multi-Action Serum, there’s a few more No7 goodies on the beauty shelf at the moment. I’ve been testing the Youthful Replenishing Facial Oil ($25)–which is perfect for the upcoming seasonal changes–as well as the Early Defence Day and Night Cream ($24). When I travel, I keep the No7 Beautiful Skin Quick Thinking Wipes ($10) for lightening-fast cleansing on-the-go and the No7 Early Defence Eye Cream ($15) to combat exhaustion. Affordable and effective are not easy to come across, but No7 delivers quite a few skincare gems. These warrant their own posts and I hope to finish up testing ASAP so I can bring you some more skincare goodies. As always, prevention is your key to youthful skin, and No7 is well aware!
