There’s a few stylish hotels in downtown Ottawa that we gravitate towards whenever we’re itching for a staycation, and our list has grown to include the brand new ALT Hotel Ottawa.
Ottawa is one of the best cities to visit in summer—especially around this time (May) when the Tulip festival is about to kick off and the patios are being set up after a long, long winter. To celebrate this beautiful weather, we partnered with the ALT Hotel for a relaxing staycation in Downtown Ottawa.
A super central experience
The ALT Hotel just celebrated their 2nd birthday on April 1st. Right on the corner of Slater and O’Connor St., this hotel is central and sees the best type of action. Parliament Hill and Sparks Street are 2 blocks away, while the stylish Rideau Center Mall is a quick 10 minute walk. Even better, the famous (and delicious) Elgin St. is within the vicinity, meaning your options for going out are endless.
Local foods and drinks
The Altcetera Café is open 24 hours and offers a wide range of food, snacks, and drinks—many of which are local to Ottawa and the region. We had a delicious cocktail in the evening and then a yummy breakfast in the AM, with a side of hot coffee. (The fresh baked croissants are a must, we ate two…)
The ALT hotel’s lobby will be the first thing to great you, with its bright colors and giant wall of images taken by Instagram artists. If you look closely, you can catch a couple local Ottawa bloggers showing off their OOTDs, and if you use #altexpo in your social media images, the screen mounted in the wall will feature your pictures!
Comfort for everyone
They offer 148 rooms, with a mix of one or two bed rooms that are spacious, beautiful, comfortable, and have mad creative energy. (We personally love staying in hotels that inspire content.) If you book directly through them, they have no check-out time. Yes, you read that right! Have a late flight out? Ask to stay until 6PM. Need to stick around after breakfast for conference calls, request a 4PM check-out—you are in total control! I mean, the Altcetera Café is right next to the lobby, with lounge chairs, big light-inviting windows, and work-friendly tables that will call out your name.
If the size of your environmental footprint is important to you (as it should be, in our humble opinion) the ALT Hotel is eco-friendly from top to bottom. Their infrastructure is energy efficient, they have geothermal heating and cooling system that recycles warm air, and their lighting is automatic and energy-saving. They also provide full-size, refillable bathroom amenities (soap, shampoo) so there’s no wasting, ever.
We thoroughly enjoyed our spacious one bed room, which had an amazing view of Ottawa’s business district. The bed was heaven and the rainfall shower was even better. Every inch of that room was pure comfort!
The energy says it all
A hotel’s energy makes or breaks it for us. The ALT Hotel radiates familiarity, comfort, and warmth—every person we came across was kind, gracious, and most importantly, they interacted with each other in a familial fashion. It made you feel like the staff were one giant family, spending a day at work together. It was a total treat to witness!
If you’re planning a staycation or want to visit Ottawa, we highly recommend you book with The ALT Hotel (and then thank us later)!
