How to make your foundation last all day

The dream is for our foundation to last all day, without flaking, oxidizing, or touch-ups. Here’s how we achieved that with the Lacome Teint Idole Ultra Wear collection.

Make sure to prime

We get it, primers sound like an unnecessary step, but it’s so important when you’re looking to make your foundation last. Depending on your skin type, Lancome offers two different primers: Prep & Hydrate Primer (C$42/U$35) and Prep & Matte Primer (C$42/U$35). As their name suggests, the Prep & Hydrate is a moisturizing primer with an illuminating finish that’s perfect for dry skin. If you have combo or oily skin, keep the excess sebum in check with the Prep & Matte, thanks to its silicone-based forumla.

Target your pores

If you use a hydrating primer, make sure to go in and spot blur your pores with the Lancome Blur & Go Mattifying Stick (C$53/U$39). Most moisture-based primers aren’t made to hide imperfections, so this stick-form is a great option to target areas that might need it.

Choose the right foundation

Of course, the longevity of your base is highly dependent on the quality of your foundation. The Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation (C$57/U$47) is a full coverage formula with a velvety matte finish, but with no powdery effect. It comes with 40 shades, which is extensive, and 3 different undertones (neutral, pink, and yellow). You can expect a flawless finish that literally won’t quit. It’s oil-free, so if you have dry skin, make sure to have a solid hydrating skin routine to avoid looking dehydrated.

Make sure to set your hard work

Whether you have dry or oily skin, making your foundation last all day is very dependent on how well you set it. The Lancome Long Time No Shine Setting Powder (C$46/U$37) is matte, finely-milled, and comes in 2 universal shades. It’s quite invisible, so you can apply it all over if you have oily skin or in certain areas, if you have dry skin. The on I don’t normally get very oily, but if I want to avoid creasing, I’ll set certain parts of my face. If you prefer mist sprays, the Lancome Fix It Forget It Setting Spray (C$42/$U34) is a must-have, especially if you have super dry skin that can’t tolerate any type of powder. This thing is lightweight and comfortable on the skin–you won’t even notice it!
