Step by step guide to Sunday Riley Skincare

We were casually browsing our top keyword searches and spotted this exact sentence: step by step guide to Sunday Riley skincare. Obviously, we had to deliver.

Before we jump (deeply) into it, this routine is for skin that’s dry dull, textured, and is prone to acne-spots. Of course, you can use all at once or pick and choose the products that work for your skin issues.

Daytime Sunday Riley skin routine

Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum

In the morning we focus on radiance and hydration. Sunday Riley CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum ($110) harnesses the great antioxidant power of vitamin C to protect your skin from external damage (like pollution, sun rays, stress, etc..). It’s a highly-potent formula that minimizes dark spots and dullness, while preventing more from happening (through said protective properties).

It’s important to know that not all vitamin c serums are made equal—it’s an unstable molecule that tends to oxidize super quickly, but Sunday Riley stabilizes it with vitamin e and ferulic acid. All that to say that this formula is stable and delivers all the good stuff. Since the formula is creamy and fast-absorbing, we use it after our toner and before our face cream.

Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream

The Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream ($85) is very hydrating, while keeping it lightweight and refreshing. Hyaluronic acid and tamarind extract are the main moisturizing ingredients, making this a moisture powerhouse. Tamarind extract actually outperforms hyaluronic acid when it comes to retaining water—chemically, it has these long sugar molecules (polysaccharides) that are great at holding on to water molecules. It works perfectly for dry skin, but it also works great for combo skin, mainly due to its lightweight gel texture.

The Tidal cream doubles as a skin brighter. It’s infused with papaya enzymes that help exfoliate the skin (chemically), as well as Alpha-Arbutin (comes from a plant) that interferes with the activity of an enzyme that is needed to produce melanin. (Basically, reduces dark spots like crazy). Alpha-Arbutin pairs super well with vitamin C so the face cream + face serum combo is perfect for the day time.

Night time Sunday Riley skin routine

If you have anything from dull to textured to congested skin, which includes acne, you have to incorporate these into your routine.

Sunday Riley UFO Ultra Clarifying Face Oil

The Sunday Riley UFO Ultra Clarifying Face Oil ($100) will change your life and your skin. The 1.5% salicylic acid penetrates deep into the pores and prevents them from clogging, while reducing active breakouts. The formula is super potent, so you can expect to breakout (purge) while it unclogs your pores. It is pretty oily, so a little goes a long way, and it might be better to spot treat if you have oily skin. Only thing, it has a herb-like smell that not everyone might enjoy, but the benefits totally outweigh the unpleasant scent.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil

Safe to say the Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil ($135) is the most popular, cult-life product of theirs.
It’s another oil-based serum, so we like to alternate at night between this and the Clarifying Oil. Aging of our skin is an internal biological process, which none of us can escape, however, photo-aging (or sun/environmental damage) is more of a preventable process.

The main ingredient is trans-retinoic acid AKA retinol, which is effective at preventing collagen degradation. Protecting your collagen supply minimizes wrinkles, fine lines, and maintaining that natural ‘plump’ appearance. Here’s a fun fact: most people think retinol is chemical exfoliant, but it’s actually a super strong antioxidant like vitamin C.

Sunday Riley Good Genes Serum

Ok, we can’t say enough good things about the Sunday Riley Good Genes Serum ($135). We’ve recommended it to everyone, and no one has regretted their purchase. The creamy formula works well paired with the UFO Clarifying Oil or the Luna Sleeping Oil–so use this after your toner, but before your oils.

The main ingredient is lactic acid, a common Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), that’s efficient at increasing cell turnover—a fancy way of saying it removes any dead skin cell build-up by breaking down the glue holding them together. When your ‘dead’ cells are being removed efficiently, it naturally eliminates that top dull layer, which can house hyperpigmentation and acne scars. You’ll quickly notice an overall brightening, softness, and radiance to your skin.
